National Trails Day
2 min read
National Trails Day is celebrated across the country on Saturday, June 6, 2026 — and Wake Forest, NC is joining in. This annual event, sponsored by the American Hiking Society, encourages communities to get outside, explore their trails, and appreciate the natural spaces around them.
Wake Forest is home to several greenways, walking paths, and natural areas that residents use year-round for recreation, commuting, and connection with nature. National Trails Day is the perfect time to discover a new trail, volunteer for trail maintenance, or simply get outside with family and friends.
Trails and Green Spaces in Wake Forest NC
The Wake Forest greenway system is part of an expanding network of multi-use paths connecting neighborhoods to parks, schools, and commercial areas. As the town grows, preserving and expanding these corridors has been an ongoing conversation among residents and commissioners — something Wake Forest Matters has covered in its reporting on development and growth and parks and recreation.
See the Wake Forest Events Calendar for other outdoor events this season. For organized hike locations and event registration, visit the Town of Wake Forest National Trails Day page.
